💡 Imagine what 2023 would have been like without the launch of ChatGPT. For me, it might have been a year with less excitement and joy. Reflecting on a year ago, I couldn't foresee today's technological breakthroughs. Kudos to OpenAI.

1. Origin
On November 30, 2022, ChatGPT was officially launched. Looking back, it was one of the few significant technological milestones I’ve personally experienced. In a world of multiple universes, that day must have been a pivotal moment in time. Even OpenAI couldn't have predicted ChatGPT's immense popularity.
Over the past year, ChatGPT has had a tremendous global impact, continuously growing. For me, it has not only sparked interest but also made my life more enjoyable and filled with anticipation.
So, on this first anniversary, I want to reflect on my year with ChatGPT from an everyday user's view, sharing my thoughts and insights.
2. My Year with ChatGPT
ChatGPT has been a daily part of my life over the past year, becoming indispensable.
Reflecting on my year with ChatGPT while writing this article, I realized it can be divided into distinct phases:
- Dec 2022 - Jan 2023: Discovering ChatGPT
- Astonished by ChatGPT’s powerful text generation capabilities, I realized its profound impact on various industries.
- With its help, I completed my first full English article, “2022 Review”, and started tweeting in English.
- It quickly became a part of my everyday life.
- Feb 2023 - Apr 2023: Growing Interest in ChatGPT
- Two important articles, “**ChatGPT Is a Blurry JPEG of the Web”** and ”What Is ChatGPT Doing… and Why Does it Work?”, gave me a preliminary understanding of ChatGPT’s principles.
- On February 11, I subscribed to ChatGPT Plus to show support.
- The substantial price drop in the GPT-3.5 API in March led to a wave of API-based applications, reminiscent of the early smartphone era.
- The launch of GPT-4 on March 15 and Microsoft’s Co-Pilot the next day were thrilling, marking the highlight of my year.
- Later, I wrote my first article on ChatGPT to calm down, “Some Personal Reflections on the AI Wave-202303”.
- With GPT-4's enhanced capabilities, I found more uses for ChatGPT, leading to my second article, “Unleashing the Power of ChatGPT: Personal Experiences and Insights”.
- May 2023 - Sep 2023: Exploring ChatGPT's Potential and Gradually Returning to Calm
- In May, ChatGPT Plugins were released but fell short of my expectations.
- Meanwhile, the official ChatGPT app launched, offering more stable mobile access.
- In June, I took the IELTS, not out of necessity but curiosity. This led me to pen my third article on ChatGPT, “Expectation vs. Reality: A Deep Dive into AI-Assisted Language Learning”.
- In July, the unlocking of Code Interpreter enabled me to delegate data statistics tasks to ChatGPT, provided I could supply the basic data.
- At work, I create my own assistant using internal features to try and free up my non-working days.
- In August, Custom Instruction went live, allowing me to start customizing the style of my assistant.
- Sep 2023 - Nov 2023: Heating Up Again
- By the end of September, new features like voice and image recognition revived my enthusiasm.
- In mid-October, I experienced these new features, marvelling at the rapid progress.
- In early November, at OpenAI’s first developer conference, GPT-4 Turbo and GPTs were released, along with several other improvements, further expanding use cases.
- I created 9 GPTs for common prompts and turned my previous IELTS prompt into a GPT.
Below are some of the GPTs I use most often:
